Our Story

It started with a goat, then another, and another, and so on... 

After purchasing our family farm here in Merrickville, Ontario, we knew we wanted to live our best lives by incorporating more self-sustainability through gardening, foraging, raising chickens for eggs and goats for milk. We realized that by utilizing my culinary background, my passion for alchemy and healing, we could make amazingly healthy products for our family, and in doing so we could also serve our community.

So, in July of 2015 The Goat House Shop & Apothecary came to life.

We appropriated the carriage-house section of our 1858 farmhouse for our Shop location, then we started making and selling a few goat milk soaps and lotion bars, and soon we had a complete line of skin care and self-care products as well as some baked goods, and specialty food items such as our famous goat milk fudge!

We now offer 22 kinds of goat milk soap and dozens of other natural body products.

 

Our goats are not just animals to use for their commodities, but they are part of our family and are treated as such. We grow our own organic hay, we milk by hand and feed our herd the most nutritious grains and minerals we can.

We are committed to using locally sourced ingredients wherever possible in our products.

  While visiting our shop you are welcome to come to the barnyard to visit with the goats. Be prepared to give them all of your affection as they will demand it!
